Summer AllStars

The Tubman Summer All-Stars is an 8 week summer reading and math enrichment program. The program is open Monday through Friday from 9 to 3 and benefits all children by: 

  • Providing a safe summer learning environment
  • Offering an extended learning opportunity to prevent summer learning loss
  • Enhancing academic skills
  • Improving social skills
  • Help working families
  • Making new friends

Critical areas we focus on are:

  • Reading:
    • Phonemic Awareness: the ability to notice, think about, and work with the individual sounds in spoken words.
    • Phonics:  the understanding that there are relationships between the letters of a written language and the individual sounds.
    • Fluency:  the ability to read text accurately and quickly.  It is the bridge between word recognition and comprehension.
    • Vocabulary:  the ability to store information about the meanings and pronunciation of words necessary for both oral and written communication.
    • Reading Comprehension:  the ability to understand, remember, and communicate with others about what they have read.
  • Math:
    • Basic operation skills
    • Solving Word Problems

We offer other educational and recreational programming such as :

  • Trips to the library for special programming
  • Cheerleading
  • Basketball
  • Gardening
  • Ice Skating at the McCann Ice Center
