Acceptable Use Policy

The Harriet Tubman Academic Skills and Enrichment Program strives to educate and model safe use of the Internet and other technologies for our students, parents, and teachers. Therefore, for access privelages to our computers and programs at the center, we ask each student, their families and our teachers to adhere to the following conditions while using the Internet or computers.

Students will:

(1) Request permission to access the Internet while at the program or at home.

(2) Use adult supervision while surfing the Internet

(3) Ask permission before entering any web sites.

Students have the responsibility to use proper computer ettiquette while using the computer. Take turns with fellow students, and properly shut off the computer upon completion of their assignments.

 

Parents and Teachers will:

(1) Screen web sites requested prior to students viewing.

(2) Maintain constant supervision during Internet access.

(3) Assist student with questions and provide support.

* Teachers will be responsible for monitoring student's time on the computer and Internet while attending the program.

* Teachers will teach proper computer ettiquette and allow students to practice.

 

A Note to the Parents.

It is important that you are present while your child is using the Internet. Encourage them to carefully type and be mindful of what sites they are accessing at all times. Demonstrate good online researching techniques by helping them look up their school or favorite baseball team on the Internet. Do no be afraid to lay down rules and to block students from accessing what you deem as inappropriate web sites.

The Internet can be a wonderful tool for your child both in and out of school. Acess to a national museum or aquarium is at their fingertips. Remember these helpful tips to ensure that your child is using the Internet properly.

* Always be present while they are accessing the Internet.

* Set time limit for Internet use.

* Show your child what to do if an inappropriate web site is accidentally accessed.

* Teach your child how to properly sign off and shut down the Internet and computer.

* Be mindful of your students assignments and what they are researching.

* When in doubt, contact your students teacher for clarification.
